Best Cafés in Moshi

Introduction

Moshi sits in the middle of Kilimanjaro’s coffee slopes, so good coffee is never far away. The town’s cafés double as meeting spots for climbers, volunteers and locals, and most do light meals and cake alongside a proper cup. A coffee runs roughly TSh 4,000–6,000 (about $1.50–2.50).

The Classics

Union Café is the best-known coffee stop in town and the default meeting point — central, calm, good cake and locally sourced Kilimanjaro beans you can buy to take home. Blossoms Café & Wine Bar leans a little smarter, good for a longer sit with a glass later in the day.

Garden & Neighbourhood Spots

Jackfruit Café in Shanty Town is a relaxed, leafy spot popular with the expat and volunteer crowd, and Kili Kahawa is a pleasant lounge for coffee with a view. For a café that gives back, Maembe‘s garden works just as well for a mid-morning coffee as for lunch.

A Local Tip

Buy your coffee beans at source — the cafés on the Kilimanjaro cooperatives’ patch sell single-origin Chagga coffee that’s hard to beat, and it makes the best-value souvenir you’ll carry home.
