The price falls as the group grows because one vehicle, one driver and one guide cost the same whether four travel or twenty-five. Only entrance fees, beds and meals are per head. Our margin is the same at every size — you are sharing the fixed cost, not receiving a discount.

School, college and university groups

A separate rate for student groups of twenty or more, and it is worth being clear about what makes it cheaper: dormitory beds instead of guesthouse rooms, simpler meals, and the bigger group dividing the vehicle further. Same guide, same places, same entrance fees. Fewer comforts.

Student ID or a letter from the institution is checked at booking, not at the gate — we are not going to embarrass anybody in front of their class. Teachers and accompanying staff travel at the same rate.

Being straight about the cheap trips

You will be offered three days for around 87,000 TZS. That is a real price and those operators are not cheating anyone — they own their bus, the group sleeps six to a room, meals are not included and there is a group leader rather than a licensed guide. For a student group or a church trip on a tight budget, that can be exactly the right choice, and we will say so.

What you get here instead: a bed you would put your mother in, a guide licensed by the Tanzanian government who is answerable if something goes wrong, and one person you can call for the whole trip. If that is not worth the difference to your group, take the cheaper option with our blessing.

Getting here from Nairobi

  • No visa. EAC citizens cross at Namanga on a national ID or EAC passport.
  • 5–6 hours Nairobi to Arusha, 274km via Namanga. Shuttles leave at 8am and 2pm.
  • We meet you at the border so nobody is negotiating a fare after five hours on a bus.
  • Namanga is open 24 hours. Allow 30–60 minutes for immigration.

Common questions

Do Kenyans need a visa for Tanzania?

No. East African Community citizens — Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan — enter Tanzania on a national ID or EAC passport. No visa and no visa fee. A yellow fever certificate is checked at the border.

How much is a group trip to Tanzania from Kenya?

For three days including transport, a licensed guide, two nights accommodation, meals and all entrance fees at East African rates: about $135 per person for a group of 10, $110 for 20, and $100 for 25. Smaller groups pay more because the vehicle and guide cost the same whatever the number.

Do East Africans pay less at Tanzanian attractions?

Yes, substantially. Tanzania National Parks and most community sites charge East African citizens a lower entrance fee than non-residents. It is a government rate rather than an operator discount, and it is applied at every gate on presentation of a national ID.

How long does it take to get from Nairobi to Arusha?

About five to six hours by road, covering 274km via the Namanga border, including 30 to 60 minutes for immigration. Shuttles typically leave Nairobi at 8am and 2pm.

Do you offer student rates for trips to Tanzania?

Yes, for school, college and university groups of twenty or more — about $80 per person for three days. It is cheaper because it is a genuinely simpler trip: dormitory accommodation instead of guesthouse rooms and simpler meals. The guide, the places and the entrance fees are identical. Teachers and accompanying staff travel at the same rate.

What size groups do you take?

From four people to twenty-five. Four to five travel in a 4x4, six to twelve in a minibus, and larger groups in a coaster. Above twenty-five we run two vehicles and quote it properly rather than guessing.
