How this works

No checkout, on purpose

Handmade goods vary by size, artist and materials, and a fixed online price would be a number we could not always honour. So the basket is an enquiry, not a purchase.

  1. 1

    Add what interests you

Browse and add pieces to the basket. Nothing is charged and nothing is committed.

  2. 2

    We confirm on WhatsApp

Real price, real availability, photographs of the actual piece where it is one of a kind. Usually within the hour.

  3. 3

    Collect, deliver or ship

Pick up in Arusha, have it delivered to your lodge before you fly, or we arrange international shipping with tracking.

On tanzanite and gemstones

We quote these individually rather than listing a price. Per-carat value swings enormously with grade, colour and certification, and a headline figure would mislead you. Tell us your budget and we will show you what it reaches, with the certificate.

On who made it

We buy direct from makers and cooperatives wherever we can — Maasai women's beading groups, the Shanga workshop in Arusha which employs artisans with disabilities, Chagga coffee growers on the Kilimanjaro slopes. Ask who made something and we will tell you.

On taking it home

Most crafts travel fine in hand luggage. Ebony carvings are heavy and worth shipping. Some countries restrict wood and animal products — we will tell you before you buy rather than after customs does.
