- Flamingo breeding lake
- Ngare Sero waterfall gorge hike
- Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano
- Dramatic Rift Valley scenery
Lake Natron lies in the Rift Valley north of the Ngorongoro highlands, a caustic soda lake that is East Africa’s most important breeding site for lesser flamingos. A Maasai guide leads a walk up the Ngare Sero gorge, wading the river to a series of waterfalls, and the perfectly conical Ol Doinyo Lengai — the region’s only active volcano — rises nearby for the fit to climb overnight.
