Tarangire is known for its ancient baobabs and for the elephant herds that gather along the Tarangire River, especially in the dry season. Game drives also turn up lion, giraffe, zebra and a rich variety of birds.
It sits within reach of Mto wa Mbu and is commonly combined with Manyara and Ngorongoro.
The core of every safari — and there is more skill in it than people expect.
A game drive is three to four hours in an open-roofed 4x4 with a guide who is reading the landscape continuously: tracks in the road, the direction vultures are circling, the alarm calls of impala and baboon that mean a predator is moving. Most of what you see, you see because someone knew where to look.
Mornings leave around 0615 because predators hunt in the cool and rest through the heat. Afternoons run from about 1600 until the gates close at 1800. The middle of the day is genuinely dead, and pushing through it is how first-timers exhaust themselves by day three.

How much is it for my group?
It depends how many of you there are, and the reason is simple: one vehicle, one guide and one tank of fuel cost the same whether two of you come or eight. Split further, the price each falls. Only the entrance fee is per head.

What is included?
Private transport and all fuel, a licensed local guide, every park or village entrance fee including VAT, drinking water, and pickup and drop-off at your hotel.

Can I book for tomorrow?
Usually yes, if you message tonight. Same-day depends on where you are staying and what you want to do.

Do East Africans pay less?
Not on this particular trip. The entrance fee here is a community or village fee, which is the same for everyone — there is no government differential to pass on, so we do not pretend there is one.
On national park trips the saving is real and significant. Ask and we will tell you which.
How long is the day?
A full day. Pickup from your hotel in the morning, back in the late afternoon or early evening — exact times depend where you are staying.
If you are jet-lagged or acclimatising for a climb, say so and we will tell you honestly whether it is too much.

How much is the Tarangire Day Safari?
From $68 per person for Tanzanian and East African citizens and from $139 for international visitors (high season, shared vehicle). In the low season (15 March–15 May) international visitors pay from $131. Two people privately pay $268 each. The calculator shows the exact price for your group and dates.
Which park fees are included?
All of them: Tarangire entry fees for every 24-hour period, vehicle gate fees and 18% VAT. East African citizens and Tanzania residents pay the lower government rates — choose your residency in the calculator.
Do children pay less?
Yes. Children aged 5–15 pay child park fees; under-5s enter the parks free.
Is it cheaper in the low season?
International park fees are lower from 15 March to 15 May (the long rains). Enter your travel date and the calculator applies the right season.
What vehicle is used?
A Land Cruiser pop-up 4x4 with a licensed driver-guide. A budget safari minivan is also possible on this route.
