Lake Eyasi A Rift Valley soda lake and home of the Hadzabe and Datoga.

Best: June to October (drier, more accessible)
Highlights
  • Rift Valley soda lake
  • Hadzabe hunter-gatherer community
  • Datoga pastoralists
  • Cultural visits from Karatu

Lake Eyasi is a shallow soda lake at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. The area is best known as the home of the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities in East Africa, and the Datoga, a pastoralist and metalworking community.

Respectful, community-arranged cultural visits are the main reason travellers come, often as a day trip or overnight from Karatu.

The best time is June to October (drier, more accessible). We plan around the wildlife and conditions you care about, so we'll match your dates to what's happening on the ground.
How many days do I need for Lake Eyasi?
It depends on your wider route, but and we can fold it into a longer Northern Circuit or beach-and-bush itinerary.
How much does a Lake Eyasi safari cost?
Costs depend on season, lodge tier, duration and group size. We send a transparent, all-in quote before you commit — no hidden park or transfer fees.
How do I get to Lake Eyasi?
Most travellers fly into Kilimanjaro (JRO) and start from Arusha. We arrange every transfer, vehicle and internal flight so you never have to work out the logistics yourself.
Is it suitable for first-timers and families?
Yes. Every trip is private and guided, so the pace, drive times and activities are built around you — including families with children and first-time safari-goers.
