Walk the UNESCO-listed labyrinth of Stone Town with a local guide — carved doors, the old slave market, Freddie Mercury's birthplace — then on to a working spice farm for cloves, vanilla, cinnamon and lemongrass. Lunch included.
Nungwi stays swimmable year-round — no tidal flats, consistent clear water. The northern tip of the island. A full day of white sand, sea turtles at the sanctuary, dhow builders on the beach, and a fresh seafood lunch at a local restaurant.
Spinner and bottlenose dolphins are resident in Kizimkazi Bay year-round. We go out by local dhow, swim with them in their natural habitat (no crowding or chasing — the bay is big enough), then snorkel the coral gardens of Menai Bay on the way back.
Twenty minutes by speedboat from Stone Town. The island was never actually used as a prison — it housed Zanzibar's quarantine station. Today it's home to a colony of Aldabra giant tortoises. Feed them by hand, swim the clear water reef, and explore the colonial ruins.
The Zanzibar red colobus monkey is endemic — found nowhere else on earth. Jozani is the only national park on the island. Morning is best: the troops are active, the light is good, and the forest is quiet before the tour buses arrive. Guided walk included.
A traditional wooden dhow, the Indian Ocean, and a Zanzibar sunset that turns the sky copper and rose. Drinks included. The Kendwa Rocks full moon party falls on the closest Saturday to the full moon each month — ask us to time your stay around it.
The east coast is a different Zanzibar: wider beaches, a shallow turquoise lagoon, kite surfers in the distance, and fishing villages where women tend seaweed farms at low tide. Paje and Jambiani are the two main villages. Road trip feel. Lunch at a local beach shack.
The complete Zanzibar in three days: Day 1 Stone Town and spice farm. Day 2 Nungwi beach with a late afternoon dhow sunset cruise. Day 3 morning dolphin tour from Kizimkazi, then Jozani Forest for the red colobus on the way back south. Hotel transfers included.
Mnemba Atoll is a marine conservation area off the northeast tip of Zanzibar. The reef is in exceptional condition: hawksbill turtles, octopus, angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda, and on good days, reef sharks. A boat trip any serious snorkeller should not miss.
Five days covering the full spectrum of Zanzibar: Stone Town on arrival, spice farm, a transfer up to Nungwi for two beach days (sunset dhow on night 2), day trip to Mnemba Atoll, Jozani Forest and Kizimkazi dolphins heading south. Fits perfectly at the end of a northern Tanzania safari.
