The Okavango is a geological miracle — a river that flows inland from the Angolan highlands and fans out into the Kalahari Desert, creating a vast inland delta of islands, channels, reed beds, and permanent lagoons covering 15,000 km². The annual flood arrives between June and August, transforming the delta into one of the greatest wildlife habitats on earth. Mokoro (dugout canoe) safaris through papyrus channels, walking safaris on dry islands, and game drives on the flood margins combine to create the most complete and varied safari experience in Africa. Lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, sitatunga, and lechwe all thrive here.
